This property is a mosaic of upland oak forest, mixed evergreen forest, grasslands, chaparral and some seasonal wetland. The south branch of Porterfield Creek, a year-round stream, traverses the site and is the spawning habitat for the federally-listed threatened Central California Coast steelhead. There is already a well-worn trail along lower Porterfield Creek. Forty-nine of the 249 protected acres are in the City of Cloverdale and were the subject of a 22-lot subdivision. Now the entire property will be protected and will forever frame the northwest side of the city. The District has been in discussions with the city and County Regional Parks leading up to this acquisition about the property’s future public use for park and open space. The public will be engaged in the process as future use is discussed.
